A San Francisco cable car filled with passengers bound for Fisherman’s Wharf jumped its tracks, injuring nine people. The cable car, on the Powell-Hyde Line, remained upright after it derailed, and most of the injuries were described as cuts and bruises, though one woman suffered a broken wrist, authorities said. Cause of the accident was under investigation, but Municipal Railway spokesman George Newkirk said the mishap may have been due to a defect in the slot blade. The blade and grip extend from the cable car down through a slot in the pavement to grab the moving cable that propels the car.
