WOODLAWN, Md. — The FBI arrested a woman and her boyfriend Thursday on kidnaping charges for allegedly taking a day-old infant from his mother’s arms at a Philadelphia-area hospital.
The baby, believed to be Phillip Worthington, apparently was in good condition and will be returned to his parents as soon as positive identification is established, FBI spokesman Andrew Manning said, but he emphasized: “Everything is circumstantial right now.”
The boy’s father, Neil Worthington, who made an emotional televised plea for his son’s return on Wednesday, said he and his wife, Barbara, were waiting for positive identification before commenting on the arrest.
Father Unable to Confirm
“There is not one thing confirmed yet,” Worthington said by telephone from his home in Silverdale, Pa.
Ramona Thompson, 44, of Ellicott City, Md., and her boyfriend, George Stanley Soustek, 42, of Baltimore, were charged with kidnaping and were being questioned at the FBI’s suburban Baltimore headquarters, Manning said.
