The World : Rebels Attack Base, Kill 8

Leftist Salvadoran guerrillas attacked an army base in eastern San Vicente province, killing eight soldiers and wounding 13, the military press office said. However, sources at the hospital in the provincial capital of San Vicente said 16 soldiers were killed and 13 wounded in the attack. The military said that rebels armed with rifles and mortars attacked the army outpost north of San Esteban Catarina, 35 miles east of San Salvador, before dawn.
