Local News in Brief : Man Falls to His Death From Hang Glider

A Redondo Beach man was killed when he fell out of a hang glider and plummeted 200 feet into a tree north of Sylmar, authorities said.
The man, John Preston, 26, died about 4 p.m. Saturday in May Canyon just outside Veterans National Park, one mile north of Sayre Street and Shablow Avenue, spokesmen for the Los Angeles Fire Department and the Coroner’s office said.
A witness reported the fall, and Preston’s body and the hang glider were found about an hour later after a search by two fire department helicopters, a fire department spokesman said.
