Southland Architects Win One-Half of Grand Prizes

DALLAS — Three Southland architectural firms won four of the eight Grand Awards in the 1987 Best in American Living Awards program sponsored by the National Assn. of Home Builders, Better Homes and Gardens magazine and Professional Builder magazine.
The awards were presented here last Friday during the convention of the builder group.
The Southland Grand Award winners are: Dorius Architects, Corona del Mar, for the Valencia Co. in Valencia (best single-family detached home over 2,400 square feet); Calderon, Nakamura & Associates, Irvine, for Vista Valley by RecreActions Inc. in Vista (best single-family detached home 1,200-1,600 square feet).
Also, Berkus Group Architects, Santa Barbara, for Copper Canyon, Tucson, by Cienega Ltd., Tucson (best single-family detached home under 1,200 square feet), and Berkus Group Architects for The Pavilions, Scottsdale, Ariz., Felker Development (best attached home 3-15 units per acre).
