GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers player James Lofton must stand trial on a charge of second-degree sexual assault, a judge ruled today after hearing testimony from a woman who said the football star attacked her in a hotel stairwell.
Brown County Circuit Judge Alexander Grant accepted Lofton’s plea of innocent at the close of a three-hour preliminary hearing, and set trial for May 18. Grant based his decision on the testimony of a single witness--a 30-year-old woman who met Lofton with friends in a bar the night of Dec. 17.
