LAGOS, Nigeria — At least 13 people have been killed, more than 800 arrested and more than 50 churches burned down in a week of rioting by Muslims angered that a Christian preacher quoted from the Koran, reports said Friday.
The fighting erupted in northern Nigeria a week ago when Muslim students attacked a Christian congregation after a preacher quoted from the Koran at the College of Education in Kafanchan, a railway town with a large Christian population.
Buses, homes and churches belonging to different Christian sects have been torched. One report said more than 50 churches were burned down in the city of Zaria.
