A motorist and his passenger were in critical condition Sunday after driving off Live Oak Canyon Road into a tree just north of O’Neill Regional Park, authorities said.
Critically injured were Donald Dolan, 32, of Santa Ana and passenger Donald J. Hoover, 35, of Trabuco Canyon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said Sunday.
Both victims were airlifted by helicopter about 10:45 p.m. Saturday to Mission Community Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Sunday that both men were in intensive care.
Dolan was headed north on Live Oak Canyon Road at a high rate of speed when the Volkswagen van he was driving went off the road and struck a tree, the CHP spokesman said.
The accident is under investigation.
