A gift of $35,000 from the Times Mirror and Pfaffinger foundations has brought the St. Barnabas Senior Center building fund to within 93% of its $3.1-million goal.
Ground-breaking ceremonies for a new center, at 675 Carondelet in central Los Angeles, are planned for April. The new facility will allow for a 50% expansion and enable the center to integrate nutritional and social services on site and provide day-care facilities for the USC/St. Barnabas Alzheimer Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center.
Last year the center provided 212,392 unduplicated social services to 24,365 clients, 74% of whom live at or below the poverty level.
