NCAA Division II Tennis : Chapman’s Miles Walker Advances to Semifinals

Chapman College junior Miles Walker won two matches Friday to advance to the individual semifinals of the NCAA Division II men’s tennis tournament at Cal State Northridge.
Walker reached the semifinals by defeating Aleco Preovoloz of UC Davis, 6-4, 6-1, and Robert Green of Rollins College, 6-2, 6-0.
He will play second-seeded Young Min Kwon of Millersville University today. Mauricio Achondo of Cal State Hayward will play Pat Emmet of Rollins in the other semifinal.
Chapman’s other remaining singles players were eliminated Friday. Paul Wekesa defeated Aga Somarno of Ferris State, 6-3, 7-5, but withdrew from his match with Emmet, trailing by 6-4, 1-0, because of an injured right shoulder. Olivier Amerlinck was defeated by Achondo, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles matches, two Panther teams advanced to today’s quarterfinals. Paul Charlesworth and David Seline defeated Jim Alt and Fesenc Hodosy of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 6-3, 6-4, and Barry Hancock and Wekesa beat Somarno and Matt Stanley of Ferris State, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Charlesworth and Seline will play Ken Olivier and Steve Enriquez of East Texas State in their quarterfinal match. Hancock and Wekesa will meet Rod Gabuya and Mike Giusto of San Luis Obispo.
