Poll Shows Japanese Want Nakasone to Quit

TOKYO — Most Japanese feel that Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone should quit when his term expires in October, and some believe he should leave even earlier, according to an opinion poll published Saturday.
The newspaper Asahi Shimbun said that 53% of 3,000 people questioned last week thought that Nakasone should leave office in October, when he is due to step down as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Twenty-seven percent said that he should quit after the June 8-10 summit of seven industrialized nations in Venice.
Nakasone’s popularity has suffered in recent weeks.
