One man was shot and killed and three others were slightly injured in a dispute that broke out in Pan Pacific Park in the Fairfax District on Monday afternoon, Los Angeles police reported.
Eight men were taken to Wilshire Division for questioning, Lt. Robert Kimball said, as officers searched for a reason behind the fracas.
“We don’t know what the dispute was about,” he said, “but suddenly everybody started pulling guns and firing at one another. We have recovered a number of guns and some ammunition.”
Among those being questioned were the three who suffered minor injuries, Kimball said, but by Monday night no one had been booked. The shooting victim was not identified.
Also Monday afternoon, police were called to the Griffith Park picnic grounds when numerous fights broke out among about 200 members of a South-Central Los Angeles gang.
“We made a mass police presence,” Sgt. Michael Rhine of Northeast Division said, and the gang members dispersed without incident. There were no arrests.
