Underground storage tanks at the Crown Coach Corp. property in Chino have leaked cancer-causing contaminants into a ground-water well 70 feet below the earth’s surface, but city and county officials say drinking water remains safe. Methylene chloride is known to cause cancer and methyl chloroform is a suspected carcinogen. But local officials said drinking water supplies are not threatened because only a second, deeper well that is not contaminated supplies potable water.
