Young Israelis Believe in Army Duty, Poll Shows

TEL AVIV — Ninety-five percent of Israeli 17-year-olds would join the army in the absence of a compulsory draft, an Israeli army researcher said Friday.
Researcher Shlomo Dover said that his new poll shows “the rooted feeling in youth about the necessity of serving in the military in order to protect the country.”
Israeli men serve a minimum of three years in the military from age 18 and are on annual reserve duty until age 55. Women are drafted for two years at age 18.
