Mays and Erving Will Receive Awards for Achievement at Benefit Sports Dinner

Willie Mays, baseball Hall of Fame member, and Julius Erving, who recently retired after 16 professional basketball seasons, will receive Life Achievement awards at the second Cedars-Sinai/Drexel Burnham Lambert Sports Spectacular Dinner next Monday night at the Century Plaza Hotel.
Also being honored with Man of the Year awards will be Ram running back Eric Dickerson, Laker Coach Pat Riley, King winger Dave Taylor and Dodger pitcher Fernando Valenzuela. Vin Scully will receive the Sportscaster of the Year award.
Presenters are Leo Durocher, Mel Allen, Lynn Swann, Marcus Allen, Jerry Buss, Bob Miller and Orel Hershiser.
The dinner, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is for the benefit of the Medical Genetics-Birth Defects Center of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Additional information relative to the dinner can be obtained by calling (213) 855-3664.
