WASHINGTON — Ten members of a congressional narcotics panel have left for a two-week tour of the Netherlands and five other countries in Europe and Africa, leaving word that neither their names nor their itinerary should be disclosed.
“They’re going to some pretty hard-core places, and we want them to come back safe and sound,” Bob Weiner, press secretary of the House Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control, said Monday.
The only name released was of the leader of the group, Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), committee chairman.
Weiner said the group, which left Sunday, would report publicly on the trip after returning Aug. 22.
