Pete Johnson, a former Ohio State football star during the 1970s who went on to play for the Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers, has been implicated in a drug deal, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported.

Ronald Anderson, a Columbus optician arrested in February on cocaine charges, has promised to testify that Johnson supplied 14 ounces of cocaine that Anderson tried to sell to an informant. Sources requesting anonymity told the Dispatch that Anderson made the promise as part of a plea agreement.

Johnson denied any drug dealings with Anderson. He confirmed that he was in Columbus with Anderson Feb. 26, the day of the arrest, but he said Anderson only picked him up at the airport and dropped him off at an automobile dealership where he was to rent a car.
