D-GIRLS

Thank God.
Just as I was about to slash my 39-year-old wrists after reading about the successful, exciting (?) lives of the young D-girls and the budding career of the 16-year-old singer/composer Debbie Gibson (Faces, by Dennis Hunt), I turned to Jennifer Foote’s great article (“Power Pack, Female Reps of Female Superstars Have the Clout,” Aug. 23).
I applaud Calendar’s journalistic balance, countering the current youth craze with examples of successful “mature” women. It is encouraging to us middle-aged re-entry students/wives/mothers/homemakers to see women, specifically post-pubescent women, recognized for making significant contributions in the ongoing power struggle of our male-dominated society.
Thanks to you, this is one foot-soldier (-ette?) who will live to fight another day.
