Pitcher Ron Darling of the New York Mets underwent a successful operation to repair torn ligaments in the base of his right thumb.
Dr. Richard Eaton performed the 45-minute surgery at Roosevelt Hospital. Darling, scheduled to be released today, is expected to be in a cast for four weeks.
“The injury will have no lingering effects,” Eaton said. “Ron should be 100% when spring training begins. I expect him to follow our rehabilitation completely.”
