Woman Sues Boy Scouts for Bias

A woman who has been barred from leading her son’s Boy Scout troop on any overnight activities filed a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America on Monday, challenging its “men-only” policy.
Phyllis Gibson’s suit was filed in Santa Barbara Superior Court by Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred, who specializes in feminist and discrimination cases.
“This is not an attack on the Boy Scouts of America. It is an attack on discrimination,” Allred said.
The lawyer said the suit sought unspecified damages and a change in Boy Scouts of America policy with regard to the exclusion of women from adult leadership positions under the California Civil Rights Act.
