The U.S. Postal Service admitted that it was mistaken when it accused an engraver of slipping his signature into a stamp design in August. Postal Service officials had said they found a scrawl-like mark on a 1985 commemorative stamp that appeared to be the upside-down signature of Swedish engraver Czeslaw Slania. But now the Postal Service says the scrawl actually was part of the design for the stamp, which honored World War I veterans, the Washington Post reported. The engraving was compared to the original artwork, a re-creation of a 1918 drawing, after a complaint from Slania, and it faithfully followed the original, officials said.
