Woodbridge High School ran its winning streak to five games with a 28-15 victory over Estancia before 1,500 Friday night at Irvine High School.
The Warriors, who open Pacific Coast League play next Saturday at Trabuco Hills, held Estancia scoreless through three quarters before the Eagles (2-3) scored two touchdowns late in the final quarter.
Coach Gene Noji called it a team victory, with both the offense and defense playing well.
“The win really gives us momentum going into our league opener,” he said.
After a scoreless first quarter, Woodbridge scored its first touchdown on a 13-yard run by John Rios with 6:57 left in the half. Keith Boothroyd kicked the extra point.
With 3:39 left in the half, Rios took a 33-yard pass from quarterback Fred Schweer for another score.
The Warriors scored again in the third quarter when Derrick Odum caught a 26-yard pass from Schweer. Jeff Smith’s kick made it 21-0. Dax Jordan scored in the fourth quarter on a 37-yard pass from Rios, and Boothroyd’s kick made it 28-0.
