Date of Temblor That Hit Mission

In your Oct. 8 San Gabriel Valley section, you give the date of the earthquake that damaged the San Gabriel Mission as 1858. I believe the earthquake you refer to occurred in 1855. O’Flaherty in “An End and A Beginning” and Newmark in “Sixty Years in Southern California” both state that the 1855 earthquake centered near San Gabriel Mission was felt more strongly than the 1857 Fort Tejon earthquake.
