Major league baseball salaries dropped this year for the first time in two decades, according to a published report.
The average big league pay for 1987, including incentives, was $402,094, compared to $410,517 in 1986, USA Today reported. The newspaper said the figures were in a report obtained at the baseball general managers’ meeting in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
The report also showed that incentive bonuses earned also declined, dropping to $6.91 million from $7.92 million in 1986.
