Boris N. Yeltsin, the ousted Moscow Communist Party boss, was dismissed from the Moscow city council’s executive committee and as head of the council’s party group, the Evening Moscow newspaper reported. The council, sitting in an unusual extra session, linked its actions to official condemnation of Yeltsin’s criticism of the party leadership for being too slow to institute social and economic reforms. The evening television news program Vremya, which is shown nationwide, showed film segments of the council meeting but made no mention of Yeltsin. The unusual omission may have been meant to spare him further embarrassment in light of rumors that he had suffered a heart attack.
