Mounties

Having just read your splendid article on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Part I, Nov. 24), may I say that your inclusion therein of its unofficial code evoked my long ago cops-and-robbers and hero-worshiping days when the Mounties ranked around the top of my list of idols because they “always got their man.” And although, according to the article, the almost universally acclaimed legend of the Mounties has been seriously tarnished in the view of some, their glamorous image remains intact in these aged boyhood eyes of mine.

Thanks, Times, for your ticket for my trip to nostalgia land.
