WASHINGTON — The White House announced Thursday that President Reagan intends to nominate Army Maj. Gen. William Burns as director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.
Burns has been principal deputy assistant secretary for politico-military affairs in the State Department since last spring. As director of the agency, he will counsel the President and secretary of state on arms control issues.
The probable selection of Burns was first reported in December after a four-month search to replace Kenneth L. Adelman.
