Lion Women Rally, Beat Columbia 63-58

The Loyola Marymount women’s basketball team overcame a 15-point deficit, took advantage of Columbia’s poor second-half shooting and scored a 63-58 non-conference victory in Gersten Pavilion on Thursday. The Lions shot only 36% in the first half and trailed, 34-25, at half time. Columbia built the lead to 42-27 after intermission. However, Loyola shot 52% in the second half when forward Amy Atkinson scored 13 of her 15 points while Columbia hit only 9 of 32 shots (28%). The Lions improved to 10-4. Columbia fell to 5-4.
Atkinson led the Lions in scoring and tied for rebounding honors at 7 with Lynn Flanagan and Regan O’Hara. Guard Kristen Bruich added 12 points and center Tricia Gibson contributed 11 points and 4 blocks.
For Columbia, Charlene Williams had 17 points and Jenny Beubis and Kristina Tyer added 12 each.
