Members of the Airport-Marina “Save the Books” Committee will see months of hard work come to fruition Monday when they present a $10,500 check to Mayor Tom Bradley.
The money, most of it raised in two recent benefits sponsored by the committee, will be contributed toward the committee’s goal of $10 million to replace 400,000 books lost to arson at the Los Angeles Central Public Library in May, 1986.
Since then, the committee has raised more than $9 million through sales of merchandise and contributions from private sources, corporations and foundations.
Mary Lou Crocket, library commissioner and committee chairman, will host the presentation Monday from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Loyola Village branch library, 7114 W. Manchester Ave., Westchester.
