Katarina Witt of East Germany, skating a dramatic interpretation of “Carmen,” won the European Figure Skating women’s championship for the sixth consecutive time.
Witt tied Sonja Henie’s mark of six straight titles by easily winning the long program in Prague, worth 50% of the total score. Soviets Kira Ivanova and Anna Kondrashova both fell during their long programs and were second and third for the second consecutive year.
