Taking the Bus to Work

The RTD free-token pitch to make bus tokens available to residents in poor economic areas with the hopes of encouraging more people to use the buses is aimed at the wrong group.
The poor already ride the buses. Most of them don’t even own cars. It is the affluent who need to be introduced to bus travel. Many of them have never been on a bus. Show them that instead of clutching defensively to the wheel of their cars in tension-building bumper-to-bumper traffic, they can read, nap, chat, people watch or just discover the route that they drive each day but never see.
