Local News in Brief : Raiders Owe $144,456

Los Angeles Raiders owner Al Davis owes the Oakland Coliseum $144,456 plus interest in back rent for use of the stadium in 1980 and 1981, the last two years before the team moved to Los Angeles, a three-judge panel of the state Court of Appeal ruled.
The decision upheld a finding in Alameda Superior Court. Davis had argued that a rent reduction clause in a contract Oakland had signed in 1968 with its baseball franchise, the Oakland Athletics, entitled him to pay less.
In another legal development involving the Raiders, U.S. District Judge Terry Hatter was assigned Friday to replace U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson in presiding over a jury trial ordered by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to adjust a $34-million damage judgment won by the Raiders against the National Football League.
Pregerson, pleading the press of business, gave notice 10 days ago that he was removing himself from the case. The original adjustment trial had been set for April. Hatter has not yet given notice when it will be held.
