Local News in Brief : Cypress : Night Stick Assumes Behavior of Boomerang
- Share via
When he signed his night stick, Cypress Police Officer Jeff Kepley unwittingly launched the tale of the stick that came home.
The story starts on the graveyard shift Jan. 13. Kepley had stopped a suspected drunk driver. After the driver failed a field sobriety test, he grabbed Kepley and wrestled the officer to the road.
Off popped the night stick. As Kepley looked up, it was rolling toward a storm drain.
It reappeared 12 days later bobbing in Huntington Harbour and was fished out of the water Friday by a sharp-eyed boater who returned the baton to Cypress police.
