THE COLLEGES : Community College Women’s Basketball : Golden West Wins 23rd Straight by Beating Compton

Lori Totosz scored 14 points and Jeannine Battaglia added 13 to lead Golden West College to a 102-45 victory over Compton Friday in a South Coast Conference women’s basketball game at Compton.
It was the 23rd consecutive victory for Golden West (24-1, 8-0), which is the state’s top-ranked team.
Jane Utu added 12, Kathy Werth 10 and Shawna Armstrong 10 for Golden West, which had all 12 players score. Compton is 0-12, 0-8.
Golden West has a two-game lead over second-place Fullerton, which defeated Cerritos, 83-76, Friday.
In Orange Empire Conference play:
Cypress 86, Riverside 67--Karen Caires scored 27 points to lead Cypress, which had four players in double figures. Becky Wayland had 17 points, Venetta Dorlis 13 and Vicky Silca 12 for Cypress (18-7, 5-0), which is in first place at the halfway point in the conference race.
Orange Coast 67, Citrus 62--Kim Ellerman scored 23 points and 7 rebounds and teammate Gilly Powell for OCC (12-11, 4-1), which is a game behind Cypress. Debbie Johnannson scored 19 for Citrus (12-13, 1-4), which led, 42-41, early in the second half but OCC went on and, 8-3, run to take the lead, 50-45.
Rancho Santiago 48, Saddleback 40--Demerial Gibson scored 16 points, Pam Murray had 14 and Vanessa Early had 13 to lead the Dons (1-4 in conference) past the Gauchos at Saddleback. Kim Larkins scored 11 points for Saddleback (7-14, 0-5).
