An Anaheim teen-ager was killed and four others were injured when a pickup truck struck an Orange Freeway bridge abutment in Anaheim about 9 p.m. Friday, officials said.
Jeffrey Claborn, 15, died from head and chest injuries received in the accident on La Palma Avenue east of Taormina Drive.
The driver, 20-year-old Norman Edward Phillips, also from Anaheim, suffered internal injuries and a broken leg.
He was reported in serious condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, according to Anaheim Police Sgt. Ron Girk.
Two 14-year-old Anaheim boys and a 15-year-old youth whose address was unknown were hospitalized in fair condition, Girk said.
Police said three of the pickup’s occupants, among them Claborn, were riding in the cab and the other two were traveling under the vehicle’s camper shell.
