Redken Laboratories’ profit in the second quarter ended Jan. 31 fell 66% to $387,000, or 14 cents a share, contrasted with $1.15 million, or 38 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales were down 4% to $28 million from $29.2 million a year earlier.
Redken, which makes cosmetics and other personal care goods and is based in Canoga Park, blamed its second-quarter results on a distribution problem caused by a change in packaging as well as increased advertising costs.
For the six months ended Jan. 31, net income was down 26% to $1.8 million, or 62 cents a share, contrasted with $2.4 million, or 80 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales were unchanged at $59 million.
