SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — P.J. Carlesimo received a new five-year contract to coach Seton Hall’s basketball team Wednesday after guiding the Pirates (20-11) to their best season in 32 years.
The signing ended months of speculation on whether Carlesimo would be back. He had compiled a 54-92 mark in his first five seasons.
“I’m happy,” said Carlesimo, who reportedly earned $50,000 last season, about half what other Big East coaches make. “I like it here. I like the Big East.”
The Pirates will meet Georgetown in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament Friday.
