In an escalation of the “war of the cities,” Iran said it fired two missiles at Baghdad and aimed a dozen at the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr after Iraq launched five missiles at three Iranian cities and bombed two others. Iran’s official news agency said its forces fired missiles at “important military centers” in Baghdad to avenge heavy civilian casualties from Iraqi air and missile strikes. A Baghdad military spokesman said Iraq launched two missiles at Tehran, two at the shrine city of Qom and one at the historical city of Esfahan in central Iran.
