The coach of the San Ramon Valley High School baseball team says the team forfeited its semifinal game in a tournament last week because 17 players admitted drinking beer.
“They’re good kids; they just made a mistake,” Coach Rick Steen told the players’ parents at a meeting in Danville, Calif.
The 17 were dropped from the team after admitting they broke school rules by drinking beer the night before a game. The team will finish its season with junior varsity players.
