Teen Protest at Consulate

Being a member of the coalition from the very beginning, I know how hard we have worked since December--first in planning the Jan. 18 sit-in. Since then we’ve had meetings every weekend and sometimes on week days. The vice consul said that we were probably put up to this by teachers or parents. He was also surprised that “kids of that age are so politically inspired.” This made me question his knowledge of his own country. In South Africa, youths are very political. They are the ones being tortured and detained.
