David Barnett, the No. 2 junior college scorer in the state, has accepted a basketball scholarship from Cal State Northridge over offers from Fresno State and the University of Cincinnati.
There is only one catch: Barnett and his counselor at Fresno City College have yet to determine how many units the 6-1 guard needs before he earns his associate of arts degree and becomes eligible to play at a four-year school.
Barnett, who averaged 25.9 points a game last season, says he has verbally committed to Northridge but will not sign until his transcripts are in order.
The Matadors are pursuing four more players, including Rodnee Mosley, a 6-3 forward from Kings River College in Reedley, Calif., who visited Northridge on Thursday.
The Northridge women’s team signed Sandi Olson, a 6-2 center from Armijo High in Fairfield, Calif., and Jill Brawner, a 5-10 guard from Poway High in San Diego.
Christy Teffeteller, a left-handed shortstop from Simi Lutheran High, signed a letter of intent to play softball at Cal Lutheran.
