Local News in Brief : Sheriff Station Plan Killed

Vigorous protests from Del Aire residents have prompted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to find a new site for a sheriff’s station proposed for the unincorporated area between El Segundo and Hawthorne.
Undersheriff Robert Edmunds said Monday that officials now will look at several other sites for the facility, which will replace the outdated Lennox station.
About 250 Del Aire residents, including some of the 24 homeowners who would have been displaced by the station, criticized the proposal at a meeting with sheriff’s representatives last week. Sheriff’s officials this time will avoid a site that displaces homeowners, Edmunds said.
