The Czechoslovak government was dissolved to open the way for a reshuffle intended to streamline management of the economy. The official Ceteka news agency reported that President Gustav Husak accepted the resignation of Premier Lubomir Strougal. Western diplomats predicted that Strougal would be reappointed, along with Foreign Minister Bohuslav Chnoupek, but that officials thought incompetent would be out.
