ART

Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

Police in Munich captured an unemployed man who seriously damaged three paintings by the German Renaissance artist Albrecht Duerer last week when he splattered them with acid. Art experts are working to limit the extent of the damage to the three religiously-themed paintings in Munich’s Pinakothek gallery, but a police spokesman could not estimate the extent of the damage or the value of the works. German police did say that the 51-year-old suspect may have carried out similar attacks on works of art 10 years ago in three other West German cities.
