Chatsworth Drops Semifinal Match

Chatsworth and Harvard highs gave good accounts of themselves at the Palisades volleyball tournament Saturday at Palisades High.
Chatsworth tied for first place in its pool with Santa Monica and advanced to the semifinals before dropping a 15-13 decision to Palisades, the eventual champion. The Chancellors defeated Dos Pueblos, 15-4, in the quarterfinals and were led by hitters Larry Fernandez, John Ross, Mike Millett and Greg Weaver.
Harvard, which finished second in its pool, was the only 3-A Division school to reach the playoff round. The Saracens were defeated in their first playoff match by Santa Monica, 15-4.
El Camino Real also participated but finished third in its pool with a 3-5 record and did not qualify for the playoffs.
In pool play, Harvard split two games with 1987 City Section 4-A Division champion University, winning, 15-8, but dropping the second game, 16-14.
The Saracens then took two games from the Palisades junior varsity, 15-7, 15-13, before losing a two games to Loyola, 15-13, 15-4. In its final pool match, Harvard split two games with Arcadia, losing, 15-11, before taking the second game, 15-4.
Senior outside hitter Bobby Hillman led Harvard in kills.
In the championship match, Palisades defeated Santa Monica, 15-9.
