Pepperdine Wins WCAC Baseball Title

Pepperdine split a doubleheader with Loyola Marymount Saturday at Loyola to clinch its fourth straight West Coast Athletic Conference baseball title.
The Waves won the opener, 10-2, on a five-hitter by freshman Dennis Burbank, and the Lions took the nightcap, 9-3, on a complete game, seven-hitter by Scott Neill.
Pepperdine improved to 19-3-1 in the WCAC and 34-21-1 overall to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Loyola, 45-16 overall and 17-6 in the WCAC, is hopeful of getting an at-large berth.
Santa Clara, which started the day in second place at 15-4-1, had a doubleheader with USF rained out. The teams will try to play two games today.
Pepperdine and Loyola complete the regular season with a 1 p.m. game today at Loyola.
