The bodies of an El Cajon couple who were killed when their small plane crashed into a mountain in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park were found Sunday by San Diego County sheriff’s deputies.
Authorities said the couple, identified by the county coroner’s office as Robert and Christina Hampshire, had left Gillespie Field shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday for a Mother’s Day trip to Tucson.
Eighteen minutes after takeoff, the single-engine plane disappeared from radar screens, according to a spokesman for the coroner’s office.
The bodies were found early Sunday amid the wreckage, about six miles north of Interstate 8 and three miles east of California 79, the spokesman said.
The cause of the crash had not been determined.
