New Tower Seen Causing Strain on Services

On the face of it, the story (May 1) about the new 33-story Coopers & Lybrand Plaza reads like a developer’s dream come true. But behind the winsome facade of this edifice I sense just one more nightmare for our city’s already frazzled public services and systems.
How much water, for instance, will be consumed and discharged daily by this white-granite hulk in order to keep its occupants happy?
Or how about the tangled traffic mess that exists already in this area, which can only get messier once this building opens for business?
And who in City Hall is giving a hoot for these and other added burdens such unbridled, voracious projects as this will heap onto our city’s already sagging infrastructure?
Oh, well. Let the good times roll and leave it to future generations to worry about. We’re too busy gorging on growth, cost be damned.
