Santa Fe Springs : Quake Aid Fund Increased

The Santa Fe Springs City Council has approved adding $600,000 to its earthquake relief grant fund for homeowners, increasing the fund’s total to $900,000.
After the Oct. 1 earthquake, the council set aside $300,000 to make grants of up to $5,000 to homeowners whose property was damaged by the temblor. But more money was needed to assist the 300 homeowners who applied to the program, so the council added $276,000 from the city’s general fund and $324,000 in Redevelopment Agency money, Planning Director Bob Orpin said.
About 140 homeowners have received grants, Orpin said. The average grant request was about $2,600, and the most commonly reported damage was to concrete block walls, he said.
