A committee of the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization has agreed on a budget reform that could remove a major obstacle to vital U.S. funding of the agency, diplomatic sources said in Rome. FAO Director General Eduoard Saouma will consult with the body’s finance and planning committees and take their views into account before preparing his 1990-91 budget, they said. The United States, which has withheld its 25% share of FAO funding and criticized the agency’s financial management, had suggested a similar reform last year, but it was rejected at an FAO conference.
